Vers Brown

Biography

What exactly is a “spitter”? Listening to surging wordsmith, Vers Brown should help answer this question. Spitting is a mundane act, merely meant to expel material out of the mouth. In the context of hip-hop music, a true spitter is able to spit thoughts, rhymes and metaphors with ease, as if they were releasing unneeded saliva onto the street. Whether it’s the scorching “So Sick” or the cerebral ponderings on “Jump Ship”, Vers Brown is a spitter’s spitter, articulately forming narratives and descriptions from deep within his cortex.

Raised by a pair of musicians, Vers Brown’s ability to efficiently glide his lyrics with simultaneous grace and fury, came naturally. Having grown up just outside of Los Angeles, Vers indeed took influence from Left-coast legends like the Pharcyde and Dilated Peoples. However, tracks like the soul-powered “Skills” are a testament to Vers’ claim that his ear was always to the wider spectrum of hip-hop, taking an equal amount of influence from jazz-based east coast greats like A Tribe Called Quest.

In following with Vers’ admiration for a vast array of hip-hop, the Pomona-bred MC is setting out to rejuvenate hip-hop and leave his own mark upon the genre: “Good music still exists,” says the cool-headed Brown. “I just want the world to know that witty lyricsts with something to say, are going to endure and leave a big dent.”
