Azealia Banks Is Still Here, Twitter Not So Much

“I’m a Young Black American Woman in 2012. I’m a 21-yr-old millionaire. i don’t have to prove myself to anyone… I’ve already paid my dues. I and the generations of women who came before me have been through enough stress and c**p to warrant me (the new generation) a very illustrious, lucrative, luxurious, STRESS-FREE career & life.”

That was a quote from Azealia Banks on her recent Tumblr activity whereby she pulled the “I’m done with rap” card. Ah, Azealia, Azealia, how uncomfortably predictable of you. She also fired her manager who was also Lady Gaga’s manager and deleted her Twitter account, complaining about how accessible the social media platform had made her. Though this is true for all of us, isn’t it the responsibility of a major label artist to produce said social media content? She complains on her Tumblr about not listening to “bloggers” who don’t have “real jobs” and then rants about how lucrative her manufactured image/brand/music has made her. Maybe it was the recent Kanye West beat hoax where she thought she was getting a Kanye beat and tweeted about it, only to find out it was a no-go. Personally I think she is having a bit of a manic episode, one that will most likely drop into a depressive state, at which point you may see it all Tumblr down. For now, get your “Kunt Fix” at her non-annoying social media locations: Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram.

Remember she’s a self declared millionaire and has an upcoming hip hop/rap mixtape about to be released, oh yeah, also has a world tour commencing. She seems to be doing just fine…

Punkie the Zebra

Punkie the Italian Fashionista/Blogger Speaks to ZIF

Bellisima

Having an Italian woman send you pictures of herself in a zebra outfit is one way to get your heart palpitating. When that woman is a talented fashion blogger from Milan, you need to slow that pulse down, process the images and post about it. Because this young star on the rise is not just another trick attempting to satiate your grossly juvenile desires. No, this is a real woman, a fashionista, a pleasurable token from Italy. Bellissima! Catch Punkies fashion features at her blog A Dream of A Lifetime.

ZIF: What is the deal with all the Zebra print in fashion this past year? Zebra print is a la mode, correct?

Punkie: Of course! I think zebra print could be current and a la mode, all the time! If you match it in the right way, it can always work!

ZIF: We are a hip hop site. Do you listen to rap music? Italian rap? American? Your impressions?

Punkie: I listen to all kinds of music! If a certain song attracts me, I will surely add it to my playlist! For example in Italy I love so many artists, one is named Caparezza. He is a bit rapper and a bit storyteller… his songs are always amazing me! And I ADORE Sean Paul. I know that he’s more dancehall than rap, but he’s great! Oh and I also like Matisyahu a lot, the melodies of his songs are stunning!

Affiliated ZIF: What about hip hop fashion? Where does it find its inspiration, in your opinion?

Punkie: I don’t know where the inspiration comes from… I think from the streets! Personally I don’t strictly follow this trend. But I think that in summer a large pair of jeans, sneakers and a simple cotton tank works so well! Oh and the collaboration between Missy Elliot and Adidas is just a fantastic! Some pieces of the collection are AMAZING! Anyway, I respect all kinds of fashion. Even if someone is being himself wearing a certain type of dress, he should be admired!

EXTRA! EXTRA! New shit still smells like shit

Older and poorer

I got a complaint/feedback recently regarding how ZIF is not as neoteric as some other blogs in the same genre. First of all, whether it’s NahRight, Rap Rapdar or 2Dopeboyz you choose, it is a mistake to compare us, we have no genre, for we have no real mandate or mission. We simply write about matters that stimulate our sensory system, for the most part, we write about our take on rap music, old and new. And yes, this commitment to writing about personally meaningful topics may lead to a handful of “new” stories or tracks being overlooked. In this new era of instant information and file sharing, I find it completely nonsensical for a blog to focus on being a site breaking stories fresh off the press per se. I can pick up RSS feeds off some of the major players in the bloggingverse and my audience is going to get whatever story I choose mere minutes after the blogging giants have informed their patrons. Hence our dedication to forging our own steez and ensuring we didn’t compromise our proverbial integrity along the way.

But, the prideful part of me wants to be the shiznit at everything, and at times that means breaking a story that has not yet been given shine. I like to think we do christen news nuggets and will continue to keep our ears glued to the virtual street. In the meantime, here’s the alternative. Me being excited about dropping a link and video for this new J-Kwon album which has yet to be posted for the most part across the rap internuts. So enjoy us either way, but remember, just because something is brand new, it doesn’t neccessarily mean it’s fresh.

Cruddy, I think.
