Erykah Badu continues to amaze me, and yet it seems as though she hasn’t necessarily done anything that different for over a decade. Though her soulful peaks and hip hop drawls have thrust her into the spotlight every now and again, all said and done, it’s the Badu “ism” that has cultivated a loyal global fanbase. It’s her mystique and sense of life, not her diverse portfolio, that propels her to the forefront of the neo-soul market. If you will, she reminds me of a manifestation of God. Not in some crazy dogmatic way either, just in the revelation type of way, where I am eager to hear what she has to say regardless of my current state of mind.

This track is off her upcoming and 5th studio album, titled New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). Ignore the initial criticism, excluding socialism, what the hell does The Guardian know about ism’s anyway.

  1. Nice to see that Erykah realized she looks good with an extra 10-15 pounds. Well…maybe her weight is the same but she just moved it from her hair to her body.
