Neneh Cherry, a name from the past ready to go from zero to blast (again). Her mother married American jazz great, Don Cherry, hence her half siblinghood with Eagle-Eye Cherry, the Cherries are an artistic family to say the very least. Her storied career had her heading several bands and landing a blockbuster single in 1988 titled “Buffalo Stance“. This month she released an album featuring primarily cover songs, in collaboration with Scandinavian jazz trio The Thing, who had derived their name from a track by her father. One such cover is this MF Doom gem from Madvillainy.
Catch the rest of the album on NPR as a part of their First Listen series. This album screams NPR/KCRW love, white people sipping coffee reminiscing about music in the 80’s and questions about who MF Doom really is.
